Cham Is An Ideal Alpine Skiing Resort For The More Advanced Skier
Even a hundred years ago, we knew that Chamonix Mont Blanc France was going to be a very popular skiing destination. This town is loaded with old world charm, streets that you could peruse for days, a wide variety of nationalities, and more provisions than could ever be needed.
On either side of the town centre, just witin walking distance, are the Aiguille du Midi cable car, starting point for the Vallee Blanche, and Le Brevent Gondola. It is not the perfect commute from the town to Cham, but it allows for the resort to preserve the atmosphere of a tangible community, instead of being build for the purpose of a resort. Due to this fact, most people overlook this small inconvenience.
Chamonix Mont-Blanc is dominated by the 3842m Aiguille du Midi, reached by cable car from the southern side of time. You can access Brevent close to Cham centre and a bit further down in Les Praz you can access Flegere, even though both are connected.
On the opposite side of the valley you can find the Aiguille du Midi and Les Grands Montets which are home to the steep and the deep. Le Tour is located at the far end of the valley and also has some good tree runs. In total there are 155km of runs with the longest downhill run coming in at 7km.
Obviously, Chamonix Mont-Blanc is fundamentally acclaimed for it’s unrivalled off piste skiing. Those of you chasing a greater skiing challenge can try Cham’ high alpine area on for size. There’s no way to anticipate the sheer amount of backcountry terrain Chamonix Mont Blanc has to work with. The Grands Montets is a good start. The drop is around 2000m and you don’t even need to hike. From the Aiguille de Midi the infamous Vallee Blanche is a 22km descent. The run isn’t outrageously strenuous but you do beed a guide. The only disadvantage about the powder in Cham is that it’s there for a matter of minutes.
Chamonix Mont-Blanc has a more lively après ski than almost any other French resorts. The MBC, about a 5 minute walk from the middle of the mountain resort, has a good repoutation for homemade beer and a 12 months of the year clientele. There’s also a lively variety of nightclubs and discos to choose from.
If you’re tired of the same-old same-old ski resorts, then you couldn’t get further from it than Chamonix France.
However, with all its faults, Chamonix Mont Blanc remains one of the most popular and famous ski resorts in the world.
